Latvia's Daile Theatre is performing its production “Oracle” (“Orākuls”) at the prestigious Onassis Centre in Athens, Greece, from 15 to 18 October. It is the second joint production by the theatre and Polish director Łukasz Twarkowski to be shown to Greek audiences. This season the theatre is taking Latvian stage art to many audiences abroad.

Daile Theatre has previously visited Athens with the production “Rotkho”, and tickets for those performances sold out.

About the production

“Oracle” premiered in August last year as part of the Ruhr Triennale programme in Duisburg, Germany. It has already been shown in Geneva, Switzerland, and Milan, Italy. The play centres on the discoveries of English mathematician and logician Alan Turing, creator of the artificial intelligence test, during the Second World War, as well as on predictions about the future and the effect of technology on present-day life.

In this staging Twarkowski continues to merge theatre and cinema. Several video operators work on stage alongside the actors, and their footage is broadcast live. The production also uses immersive soundscapes and cinematic projections. The technical and creative team numbers almost 40 people.

Upcoming plans

At the end of October “Oracle” will be performed at Daile Theatre as part of the first theatre-organised showcase of productions, Dailennāle. For the performances on 30 and 31 October, young people will get a 50% discount on tickets.

The theatre will also tour to Seoul, Korea, in November, Perth, Australia, in February, and London's Barbican Centre in the autumn, and later Berlin. The co-production “Suburban Angels” will tour Finland in spring 2027. The co-produced “Siddhartha” premiered at the Ruhr Triennale on 10 September, will be shown in Daile Theatre's Great Hall on 21, 22 and 23 October, and then in Amsterdam and Lisbon in January.

“Oracle” was created in cooperation with the Ruhr Triennale, New Error, Comédie de Genève, Piccolo Teatro di Milano and De Singel in Antwerp, with the support of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute.
