On September 11, the Great Hall of the Daile Theatre held the first premiere of the new season. The theatre opened its season with a comedy whose genre is described as "a farce in two acts." The production, based on a play by Michael Frayn, was staged by director Mārtiņš Eihe and, according to the theatre, promises audiences light entertainment and a good mood.

The play turns its focus on theatre itself, humorously portraying what happens behind the scenes and allowing actors to throw themselves into roles that poke fun at their own profession. At the center of the story is a theatre troupe preparing for a dress rehearsal, confident that everything will go smoothly. As the genre suggests, however, events unfold quite differently – props go missing and reappear in the wrong places, relationships between characters grow tangled, lines get mixed up, and the backstage tension escalates into an emotional outburst that plays out in a bathroom.

Chaos and unpredictability

As the show progresses, a lack of time and shifting alliances between characters cause the carefully controlled farce to collapse. Further complications arise from characters entangled in bizarre conflicts, including one involving sardines, and demanding attention for themselves like prima donnas. The result is described as a loud, chaotic whirlwind of events that nonetheless keeps the audience's attention from start to finish.

The creative team behind the production includes playwright Justīne Kļava, set designer Emīls Jansons, costume designer Ilze Vītoliņa, choreographer Ramona Levane, musical director Juris Vaivods, and lighting designer Mikus Guds. The production manager is Iveta Boša, with Līga Svempe serving as producer.

The cast features Arturs Krūzkops, Mārtiņš Meiers, Jana Herbsta, Ieva Segliņa or Katrīna Griga, Dainis Gaidelis, Aldis Siliņš, Klāvs Kristaps Košins, Marta Lovisa Jančevska, and Madara Viļčuka. The premiere drew several well-known figures from Latvian public life.
