Jonas Vingegaard, the 29-year-old Danish cyclist, abandoned the 2026 Tour de France on Sunday after a heavy crash during the 15th stage. The two-time champion (2022 and 2023) was sitting second overall behind Tadej Pogacar. The crash occurred in a roundabout approximately 20 kilometers from the finish at Plateau de Solaison. Vingegaard brought down several of his Visma-Lease a Bike teammates along with Mexican rider Isaac del Toro, who was able to remount and continue.

Vingegaard was seen in evident pain as he climbed into an ambulance with his right arm in a sling. Yellow jersey holder Pogacar managed to avoid the incident. Prior to the stage, Pogacar held a lead of four minutes and 30 seconds over Vingegaard in the general classification.

The Visma-Lease a Bike rider did not finish the stage, effectively ending his campaign for a third Tour de France title. The full extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
