Officers from the State Police's Latgale Regional Department detained a woman born in 1980 in Daugavpils on September 30, on suspicion of distributing narcotic substances. The detention took place within a criminal case that had already been opened, after investigators verified operational information about possible illegal drug trafficking.

Search findings

During a sanctioned search, police found and seized a total of 80 pills containing psychotropic substances from the woman — 40 tablets of "Subutex" and 40 of "Klonazepam". Officers also seized 15 grams of marijuana, 10 grams of cocaine and 10 grams of ecstasy.

The exact composition of the seized substances will be determined following a forensic examination. A criminal case has been opened under Section 253, Part One of the Criminal Law, covering the illegal manufacture, acquisition, possession, transport or shipment of narcotic or psychotropic substances without intent to sell. The offense carries a penalty of up to three years' imprisonment, short-term imprisonment, probationary supervision, community service, or a fine.

The investigation continues. The State Police notes that under Latvian law, no person is considered guilty until proven so through the legally established procedure.

Public appeal

The State Police reminded the public that the circulation of intoxicating substances in Latvia is illegal and punishable, urging residents to report any suspicions about individuals involved in illegal drug distribution. Reports can be made by calling 112, the State Police's confidential tip line, or by email.
