Historical Reenactment in Daugavpils

On July 11, the annual historical reenactment festival will take place in Daugavpils for the ninth time. The event focuses on the events of July 1812, when French troops approached the Dinaburg fortress and attempted to capture it over several days, but eventually retreated.

The reenactment will be staged against the backdrop of the modern fortress's ramparts and bastions, creating an impressive setting. However, in reality, in 1812 the citadel was far from completed – it only gained its current appearance years after Napoleon's invasion. This historical nuance adds depth to the reenactment, allowing participants and spectators to imagine the battle taking place in an unfinished stronghold.

The festival has become a significant cultural event in the region, attracting history enthusiasts and tourists. Participants will wear period costumes, demonstrate military tactics, and showcase daily life from the early 19th century.
