Municipal police in Daugavpils, working with video surveillance staff, detained two men suspected of stealing firearms from a city shooting range within less than an hour of the report. The stolen weapons were recovered during the arrest.
Over the weekend, Daugavpils municipal police carried out a swift operation that led to the detention of two men suspected of stealing firearms from a city shooting range, with the arrest completed in under an hour.
Theft reported
On Sunday, September 27, at 11:46, the duty unit of the Daugavpils municipal police received a report from the State Police that firearms had been stolen from a shooting range in the city, with two men suspected of the theft. Municipal police immediately launched a search operation.
Surveillance footage identifies suspects
Staff at the video surveillance post quickly reviewed archived footage from city cameras and established the appearance of the suspects. Both men were already known to the camera operators, having previously drawn attention from law enforcement for various public order violations.
Monitoring the live camera feed, staff noticed the two men entering a fast-food establishment in the city center and immediately alerted a nearby police patrol.
Arrest and recovered weapons
The patrol rushed to the location, and by 12:04 — less than 20 minutes after the report was received — both suspects were detained without resistance. The stolen firearms were recovered during the arrest.
The two men, along with the recovered evidence, were handed over to the State Police for further procedural steps and the opening of a criminal case.
