Daugavpils hosts Latvian speedway finale — Jevgenijs Kostigovs crowned champion
Daugavpils hosted the closing round of Latvia's Open Speedway Championship, with Jevgenijs Kostigovs winning the title for the second time in his career.

Daugavpils recently hosted the final round of Latvia's Open Speedway Championship, bringing the season to a close. The event gathered the country's speedway riders to determine who would finish on top for the year.
Not every leading rider was able to take part. Andžejs Lebedevs was competing at the same time in the European Championship final in Pardubice, so he could not race in Daugavpils. Daniils Kolodinskis also missed the event after sustaining an injury that kept him off the track.
Kostigovs claims the crown
Despite the absence of some of the sport's best-known names, the competition still delivered an engaging contest rather than a letdown for those following it. At the end of the season's final round, Jevgenijs Kostigovs was confirmed as Latvia's speedway champion — the second title of his career.
With the Daugavpils round complete, Latvia's speedway season has now wrapped up, giving riders time before preparations begin for the next cycle. Kostigovs's win underlines his strong form this year, even as the absence of a couple of top rivals shaped how the final standings came together.
