Daugavpils Installs Vintage-Style Public Drinking Fountains
Seven public drinking fountains are currently available in Daugavpils, with two more to be installed soon. The new fountains, designed in a 19th-century vintage style, encourage eco-friendly habits and reduce plastic waste.

The municipality of Daugavpils is expanding its network of public drinking water points, introducing vintage-style fountains that combine aesthetics with functionality. At present, the city has seven such fountains, with their locations marked on an interactive map. In the near future, an additional fountain will be installed in the Judovka neighborhood, on Ostrovska Street near the Maļutki Old Believers' prayer house, where engineering preparations have already been completed. A further fountain is planned at the boat pier on the shore of Lake Lielais Strops, on the Vecstropi side, once the extension of the Stropi promenade project is finalized.
The new fountains are green and modeled after the "Victoria" design, reflecting a 19th-century vintage style. They operate with the push of a button, delivering water after a few seconds, and are equipped with an automatic shut-off mechanism to prevent waste when not in use, as well as frost protection to withstand cold weather.
All fountains are connected to the centralized water supply system, with water quality monitored by specialists from SIA "Daugavpils ūdens." The availability of free drinking water in public spaces aims to promote environmentally friendly habits among residents and help reduce the consumption of single-use plastic bottles, according to the municipality.
