At the end of last year, the Daugavpils Museum of Local History and Art underwent a reorganization and was merged with the Rothko Museum. The institution was then closed to carry out renovation work and reassess its operational concept. City residents noticed on social media that one of the museum's most recognizable exhibits – a historic locomotive – was being relocated to the design center "Engineer Arsenal". This move has sparked widespread discussion and fears that the museum's collections are being dispersed without proper control. No official statement regarding the museum's future operations has been released yet.
