Daugavpils secure fourth place in Latvian Virsliga and a European qualifying spot
In round 35 of Latvia's top-flight football league, BFC Daugavpils beat Tukums 2000 2-0 and, helped by Super Nova's draw with Liepaja, finished fourth. That earns a place in UEFA Conference League qualifying next summer.
BFC Daugavpils secured fourth place in the Latvian Virsliga, the country's top football league, on Sunday, 1 November, beating Tukums 2000 2-0 at home in round 35. The position gives them the right to enter UEFA Conference League qualifying, the opening stage of the European club competition, next summer. All final positions in the table were also settled on the day.
Daugavpils win
Daugavpils took the lead in the 29th minute through Ervins Pinaskins. Daniels Kivinda added a second goal after the break. Tukums 2000 now face a relegation play-off against either Valmiera or Leevon PPK from the First League.
Liepaja's result sealed fourth place for Daugavpils. FK Liepaja drew 3-3 at home with SK Super Nova. Liepaja were still ahead late on, but Super Nova, reduced to ten men after a red card for Eduards Ems, levelled in the 85th minute through Agris Glaudans. Amars Haidara scored twice for Liepaja and Oloko Ede once; Ede later missed a penalty. Valerijs Lizunovs scored twice for Super Nova. Liepaja finished fifth.
Other matches
In Ogre, Riga FC drew 0-0 away to Ogre United. The Riga side had 18 shots in the second half and an expected goals (xG) figure of 3.19 for the match, but could not win. They played the last five minutes with a numerical advantage after Aleksejs Kudelkins received a second yellow card. The result cost them the league title, and they ended the season second.
In the highest-scoring game of the day, Auda beat Jelgava 4-3. Auda led 2-1 at half-time through goals from Eduards Daskevics and Edvin Bongemba, while Filips Hasek replied for Jelgava. After the break Daskevics and Husaini Ibrahim scored for the hosts, with Hasek and Tomas Rataj on target for the visitors.
FC RFS finished top of the table with 89 points, Riga FC have 83, Auda 70, Daugavpils 51 and Liepaja 48.
