Daugavpils beats Tukums 2:0 as goalkeeper Beks makes crucial double save
In a Latvian top-flight match, Daugavpils defeated Tukums 2000 2:0, with goalkeeper Jānis Beks making two key saves just before the decisive goal.
In round 26 of the Latvian Virsliga, home side Daugavpils secured an important win over Tukums 2000, finishing the match 2:0.
The first half ended goalless, although Daugavpils controlled possession for most of the period. The best chance fell to the hosts when Abdul Traoré shot wide from close range after a cross.
Beks denies Tukums twice
In the 62nd minute, Tukums had a huge opportunity to break the deadlock, but goalkeeper Jānis Beks first saved a long-range shot from Kaspars Anmanis, then got back on his feet in time to deny Brazilian forward Leoni as well.
Just minutes later, in the 66th minute, the hosts capitalized on their own chance — following a pass from substitute Ervīns Piņaskins, Nigerian forward Jakubu scored, marking his second goal in as many matches.
Tukums pushed for an equalizer, but both Anmanis and Leoni failed to convert further chances. In stoppage time, Raivis Skrebels sealed the win with his first goal of the season, making it 2:0.
For Tukums, this marked a seventh consecutive away defeat, and only the third time this season the team failed to score. Both sides fielded goalkeepers on loan from RFS.
On Friday, Daugavpils will host the Ogre side in a cup match before playing three consecutive away league fixtures. Tukums has already been eliminated from the cup.
