Daugavpils regional hospital repeatedly left without on-duty gynecologist
Daugavpils regional hospital had no on-duty gynecologist on several holidays and weekends this spring and summer, including when a bleeding patient sought help. Hospital officials say the absences were pre-planned.

The Delfi news desk received a letter raising concerns about Daugavpils Regional Hospital (DRS), where on certain holidays and weekend days in May, June and July, no on-duty gynecologist or obstetric specialist was available.
One such incident occurred on May 4, when a woman came to the hospital with bleeding but found no gynecologist on duty. She was transferred to Rēzekne hospital and later filed a complaint asking why DRS had no gynecologist available.
Schedules were approved in advance
Doctor duty schedules obtained by Delfi show that on the dates in question, the gynecologist column was marked "not available" — indicating these were pre-planned absences rather than sudden incapacity.
DRS public relations specialist Jūlija Kasecka confirmed that the following month's duty schedule is drawn up and approved during the last week of the preceding month. According to information provided by the hospital, doctors from 12 specialties are involved in ensuring duty coverage.
