Some livestock farms in Latvia still without electricity

In various parts of Latvia, a number of livestock farms are still without restored electricity supply. In some cases the outage has lasted long enough that farmers have already had to dispose of significant volumes of milk that could not be properly stored or processed without power.

Generators bring their own issues

Many affected farms are relying on their own generators to keep essential operations running. However, this workaround has not been trouble-free — farmers report various technical problems affecting the generators' reliable operation.

Complaints over coordination

Farm representatives also point to a lack of coordination and communication from municipalities, media and other institutions. They believe better information exchange and closer cooperation could help restore power more quickly and reduce the losses caused by spoiled milk and other produce.
