Latvian public television's investigative programme "De facto" reports that Jūrmala mayor Jānis Lediņš, of the Latvian Green Party, and his office head Gatis Truksnis, also a party member, have been spending several hours on a golf course in the middle of working days.
Three sightings in two weeks
According to the programme, journalists observed the two officials at the golf club on three separate occasions over the past two weeks. In every instance, the visits took place on a weekday, around lunchtime.
Mayor's response
Asked about playing golf during working hours, Lediņš replied that his working hours are "24/7", suggesting that a mayor's duties are not confined to a standard schedule and are effectively carried out around the clock.
The report has drawn public attention to how senior Jūrmala municipal officials structure their working days, raising questions about accountability for time spent away from official duties during business hours.
