Large fire in Riga's Deglava Street contained; two firefighters injured
A major fire broke out in an unmanaged two-story building on Deglava Street in Riga on Friday evening. The blaze was contained after several hours, but two firefighters sustained injuries and were treated on site before resuming work.
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) received a call at 4:45 PM to Deglava Street in Riga, where an unattended two-story building was engulfed in open flames. The fire spread across 545 square meters: the first floor burned over 170 square meters, the second floor over 200 square meters, and the roof over 175 square meters.
Firefighters battled the blaze, and two of them were injured during the operation. After receiving medical attention, both were able to continue their duties. The high-risk fire was contained at 7:26 PM, though extinguishing and monitoring efforts are ongoing.
Currently, 24 firefighters, six tanker trucks, and two aerial ladder trucks remain on site. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
