Fuel prices rise 8.8% over the past month

Fuel prices in Latvia climbed 8.8% over the past month, driven mainly by a sharp rise in diesel costs. Compared with a year earlier, overall fuel prices are now more than a fifth higher.

Fuel prices in Latvia rose by 8.8% over the past month, according to the latest data. The main driver behind the increase was diesel, which became 11.5% more expensive. Petrol prices rose more moderately, by 2.9%, while auto gas was the only fuel type to become cheaper, dropping 0.3% in price.

Year-on-year prices up sharply

Comparing August 2026 with August 2025, the average fuel price level in the country rose by 22.1%. Diesel again saw the steepest annual increase, at 24.5%. Petrol prices rose by 18.3% over the same period, while auto gas edged up by just 0.1%.

Comparison with the annual average

When August 2026 prices are compared with the 2025 average price level, overall fuel prices were 21.1% higher. Diesel prices exceeded the average level by 24.4%, and petrol by 16.0%. Auto gas, however, was 0.5% cheaper than the annual average, making it the only fuel type to have become less expensive by this measure.
