Davey eyes Wales call-up ahead of WXV campaign
Welsh scrum-half hopeful Davey is competing for an international spot alongside Keira Bevan and Seren Lockwood, with Wales set to open their WXV campaign against South Africa on 18 September in Cardiff.
Welsh rugby player Davey, who has mainly trained at scrum-half, is hoping to earn a place in the Wales squad ahead of the upcoming WXV tournament. She faces competition for the position from Keira Bevan and Seren Lockwood.
Despite scrum-half being a position often associated with fierce internal rivalry, Davey says the relationship between the three players is friendly rather than competitive in a negative sense. She explained that they genuinely enjoy each other's company and want each other to succeed, with no hostility between them. According to Davey, whoever proves themselves first on the pitch earns the selection, and the others fully support that decision.
Davey has also previously played at fly-half during her time with Loughborough.
Upcoming Fixture
Wales will begin their WXV campaign against South Africa at Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, 18 September, with kick-off at 19:15 BST.
A potential call-up would mean a great deal to Davey. She described playing international rugby as a huge privilege and said she wants to make her family proud, as well as the coaches who have supported her throughout her 15-year journey in the sport. She called it the final step toward feeling she has truly made it, and said she hopes the opportunity comes soon.
