Welsh player Liam Davies beat world champion Wu Yize 4-1 in the third round of the English Open in Brentwood to reach his first ranking event quarter-final, while several other last-16 clashes went down to the wire.
Twenty-year-old Welsh prospect Liam Davies caused a stir at the English Open in Brentwood, defeating world champion Wu Yize 4-1 in the third round to reach the quarter-finals of a ranking event for the first time in his career.
Davies raced into a 3-0 lead, aided by a break of 105 in the second frame, before Wu, who struggled to hit his best form throughout the match, could only manage to win one frame in reply.

Elsewhere, former world champions Mark Selby and Kyren Wilson met in a tight all-English contest that Wilson won 4-3. Selby, who was runner-up at last week's British Open and had won the China Open in August, built an early 2-0 lead helped by a break of 112, but then dropped the next three frames. Although he fought back to level the match, Wilson sealed victory in the decider with a treble on the yellow ball.
England's Judd Trump, recently displaced as world number one, edged past Scotland's Anthony McGill 4-3 in a tense deciding frame. Ali Carter also progressed, beating Gong Chenzhi 4-2 with a top break of 75.
Zhou Yuelong compiled a break of 141 on his way to a 4-2 win over fellow Chinese player Yuan Sijun, while Ding Junhui defeated Joe O'Connor 4-1.
