Dell has announced a new mid-range laptop, the 14S, aimed at mainstream buyers who might otherwise consider Apple's currently popular MacBook Neo. The new model comes in four color options, mirroring the Neo's color lineup.

Specifications

The 14S features a 61.2 Whr battery, which Dell says is built to last through a full day of use. Power comes from processors up to an Intel Core 7, described as both efficient and capable.

Buyers can choose between two 14-inch display options: one with FHD resolution and another with a sharper 2.8K resolution. Memory tops out at 16GB, while storage options go up to 1TB. The laptop weighs just over 2.5 pounds, making it slightly lighter than the MacBook Neo.

Price still unknown

Dell has not yet disclosed pricing for the 14S, saying that detail will come closer to the laptop's launch this fall. To genuinely compete with Apple's entry-level machine, the price would need to land near $700.

The 14S isn't Dell's only recent attempt to draw attention away from Apple's resurgent MacBook line. The company also refreshed its XPS 13 earlier this year as another Neo alternative, a laptop that received a favorable reception, particularly in its 16GB memory configuration.
