Dell unveils colorful budget-friendly 14S laptop for students
Dell announced the new 14S laptop at IFA 2026, a student-oriented device offered in multiple colors and positioned as a more affordable alternative to the XPS 13. Pricing is not yet finalized, but the laptop is expected to launch later this fall.
At IFA 2026, Dell introduced the 14S, a new laptop designed to slot below the recently released XPS 13 and provide a more budget-friendly option as many other laptop lines continue rising in price.
The 14S will be available in four colors: linen (beige), dusty rose (pink), washed denim (blue), and velvet green. The base configuration includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with upgrade options for 16GB of RAM and either a 512GB or 1TB SSD.
Design and ports
While not as thin or light as the XPS 13, the 14S makes up for it with a broader port selection. Alongside two USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports supporting DisplayPort and Power Delivery, it includes an HDMI 1.4 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack — a feature notably absent from the XPS 13.
Display options are simpler and non-touch: a 300-nit, 1920 x 1200 resolution panel at 60Hz, or a brighter 450-nit, 2880 x 1800 panel with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Features for students
The laptop includes a 1080p webcam with Windows Hello facial recognition support. Dell claims the battery can last up to 23 hours of continuous Netflix streaming. Processor options are limited to the Intel Core 5 320 or Core 7 350, meaning the 14S won't offer the newer Intel Panther Lake chips expected to come to the XPS 13.
Exact pricing hasn't been confirmed yet, but Dell representatives said during a briefing that the 14S will be priced close to the XPS 13's roughly $700 starting price, while being somewhat more affordable. Final pricing details are expected closer to the laptop's release later this fall.
