France secured top spot in Group I at the World Cup with a 4-1 (3-1) victory over Norway on Friday, thanks to a hat-trick from Ousmane Dembele.

Dembele opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a pass from Kylian Mbappe, and added a second in the 19th minute, again set up by Mbappe. Norway pulled one back a minute later through Telonius Osgord, but Dembele completed his hat-trick in the 30th minute to restore France's two-goal lead.

Early in the second half, Norway were awarded a penalty, but Jørgen Larsen's spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Mike Maignan. In stoppage time, Desire Doue headed in from Bradley Barcola's cross to make it 4-1.

In the other Group I match, Senegal thrashed Iraq 5-0 (1-0), with Iraq reduced to ten men from the 13th minute after Rebins Sulaka's red card. Habib Diarra scored in the fourth minute, Ismaila Sarr added the second in the 55th, Pape Gueye netted his second of the match in the 71st, and Iliman Ndiaye completed the rout late on.

France top the group with nine points, followed by Norway (six), Senegal (three), and Iraq (zero). Senegal can still advance as one of the best third-placed teams.
