Democrat demands answers over Russian oligarch's funding of Trump Jr's wedding party
Top House Oversight Committee Democrat Robert Garcia is pressing the White House and Donald Trump Jr for details about ties to Russian businessman Umar Kremlev, who paid for part of Trump Jr's wedding celebrations.

Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has opened an inquiry into potential ties between the White House and Russian businessman Umar Kremlev, who covered part of the costs for Donald Trump Jr's wedding celebrations.
On Monday, Garcia sent a letter to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles raising concerns about possible foreign entanglement involving the president's family. He requested documents and communications between the White House and Trump Jr concerning Kremlev. Garcia noted that as a part-owner and major investor in companies holding extensive Department of Defense contracts, Trump Jr's apparent ties to figures close to Russian President Vladimir Putin raise serious questions about pay-to-play arrangements and possible foreign intelligence infiltration of the president's family.
In a separate letter to Trump Jr himself, Garcia requested further details about the wedding events, including all communications with Kremlev, any communications with the White House regarding him, financial records of purchases made by foreign nationals, and a full list of wedding gifts received from foreign nationals.
The letters followed a report by investigative outlet ProPublica revealing that Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on wedding celebrations for Trump Jr and his wife, Bettina, earlier this year. The couple confirmed Kremlev's financial involvement on Monday.
Responding to the report, President Donald Trump said he had never heard of Kremlev and that the oligarch had not paid for the wedding itself, but rather for a separate afterparty held at a different location and on a different date, which the president said he did not attend.
After the ProPublica report was published, Garcia posted on X asking why a Russian oligarch close to Putin had funded Trump Jr's wedding in the Bahamas, adding that answers were needed about what Kremlev received in return for spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the president's son.
The inquiry into the wedding is part of a broader investigation by House Oversight Committee Democrats into how the Trump family has allegedly enriched itself since the president took office last year.
