Latvian popular figure skater Deniss Vasiļjevs became a three-time Olympian in February 2026 in Milan. The 26-year-old athlete finished 18th, and although his performances received ovations, some elements such as spins were not perfectly executed – precisely those that usually are his strongest. Vasiļjevs admitted there are several reasons for that.
The day after his final skate, TVNET+ met with him to reflect on his experience. The conversation covered several topics: becoming a three-time Olympian despite illness; his relationship with coach Stefan Lambiel and events in Champery last autumn; his outrage at the European Championship, where, as he said, 'something died inside me'; praise for American star Jason Brown; and future plans, including a possible approaching end to his career.
Vasiļjevs revealed a bitter aftertaste, but pride in his achievements is justified. He emphasized that he feels alone in this pursuit, reflecting his determination and unique path in figure skating. In the interview, he outlined both past challenges and a look ahead, leaving open the question of continuing his career.
