Deschamps to miss France’s final group game due to family reasons
France national team head coach Didier Deschamps will not be on the bench for the decisive group match against Norway because of family circumstances; his assistant Guy Stéphan will take over.

Didier Deschamps, the long-time head coach of the French national football team, will miss the team’s final World Cup group stage match against Norway due to family reasons, the French Football Federation announced on Thursday.
Replacement
The 59-year-old’s duties in this match will be handled by his assistant Guy Stéphan, who has worked with Deschamps for 17 years – three of them at Marseille club and the last 14 with the national team.
Deschamps’ legacy
Deschamps is one of the most decorated figures in French football history. As a player, he won the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Championship. He became head coach of the national team in 2012. Under his guidance, France won the 2018 World Cup in Russia and finished as runner-up to Argentina in 2022.
Group stage situation
France has already secured a spot in the knockout rounds after victories over Senegal (3-1) and Iraq (3-0). However, the match against Norway will determine the winner of Group I, so the team remains motivated to fight for first place.
