France boss Didier Deschamps has predicted a 'spectacular' semi-final when his side face Spain in a World Cup showdown in Dallas on Tuesday.

Deschamps, who is stepping down after the tournament, said the past is in the past, referring to Spain's victories over France in the Euro 2024 semi-finals and last year's Nations League last-four. 'We are now at another level. We want to be in the final,' he added.

France could become only the third country to reach three consecutive World Cup finals, after West Germany (1982-1990) and Brazil (1994-2002). Deschamps captained France to the title in 1998 and managed them to glory in 2018, before losing on penalties to Argentina in the 2022 final.

Deschamps acknowledged Spain as favourites, noting they have conceded just one goal in six games. 'We know this could be a most spectacular game,' he said.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente played down the favourite tag, stating it does not add extra pressure as they already feel pressure to perform for their country.
