Nine EU defense ministers urge Brussels to speed up Patriot missile delivery to Ukraine
Nine EU member states' defense ministers have called on the European Commission to fast-track approval for Ukraine to purchase Patriot air defense missiles and other critical weapons from outside the EU under its €90 billion loan program.

Nine European Union defense ministers have urged the European Commission to expedite approval for Ukraine to acquire Patriot missiles and other essential weapons from non-EU manufacturers. This request falls under the EU's €90 billion support loan program designed to bolster Ukraine's military capabilities.
In their appeal, the ministers stressed that Ukraine's urgent needs must take priority as Russia's ballistic attacks intensify. The Patriot system is among the most advanced air defense platforms, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
Current EU regulations create bureaucratic hurdles for Ukraine when purchasing weapons from third countries such as the United States. The ministers' letter to the Commission calls for streamlining these procedures to ensure faster deliveries, which are critical for Ukraine to counter Russian aerial assaults.
