Seven drunk drivers caught in one day, all face car confiscation

The State Police have reported that over the past day, seven cases were recorded across Latvia of drivers getting behind the wheel while under the influence of alcohol.

All seven detained drivers now face consequences that have become standard practice for this type of violation: their vehicles will be confiscated, or, if that is not possible, the monetary value of the vehicle that would have been confiscated will be recovered from them instead.

Police did not provide further details on the specific circumstances of each individual case, but noted that such violations continue to be recorded regularly despite the strict penalties in place for driving under the influence.

Vehicle confiscation or recovery of its value is part of the legally established penalties intended to reduce drunk driving on Latvia's roads.
