Latvia's State Police reports that over the past 24-hour period, 11 drivers were stopped on the country's roads while under the influence of alcohol.

Police officers regularly carry out checks on drivers to help prevent traffic accidents caused by drunk driving. Despite repeated calls for road users to follow traffic rules and avoid endangering themselves and others, such violations continue to be recorded on a regular basis.

Identifying drivers under the influence of alcohol remains part of the police's routine daily work, with checks carried out throughout the country, including at major traffic junctions and in the regions.

Driving under the influence of alcohol in Latvia is punishable administratively and, in more serious or repeat cases, criminally. Penalties can include fines, suspension of driving privileges for a set period, and other restrictions depending on the level of intoxication and the circumstances involved.
