South Korea's Hanwha Aerospace signs air defence agreements with four Lithuanian companies
South Korean defence and aerospace firm Hanwha Aerospace has signed memorandums of understanding with four Lithuanian companies on producing and integrating air defence systems. The cooperation centres on a 40mm wheeled anti-aircraft gun system.

South Korea's Hanwha Aerospace signed memorandums of understanding with four Lithuanian companies on Monday, 26 October, to cooperate on producing and integrating air defence systems. The companies involved and the Lithuanian Defence and Security Industry Association announced the deals. The agreements could strengthen Lithuania's position in the Baltic region's defence industry.
Four areas of cooperation
The memorandums cover four areas tied to the 40mm wheeled anti-aircraft gun (WAAG) system. Potential vehicle integration will be explored with KMT. Cosmos Construction and T&G Lithuania will work on turret hull and cable production. Nortal is to handle integrating command and control systems into NATO networks.
About the system
The WAAG is a mobile air defence system built to counter low-flying targets, including drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles. It combines automated fire control and target-tracking technologies with 40mm ammunition.
Company goals
Robert Park, senior vice president of Hanwha Aerospace, said in a press release that the company aims to build "long-term industrial partnerships" with Lithuanian firms. The focus will be on technology transfer, joint solution development and system maintenance throughout their lifecycle.
Park added that the company also wants to support Lithuania's ambition to become a regional hub for defence industry manufacturing and maintenance in the Baltic region.
