Between August 10 and 11, the Kurzeme regional branch of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) responded to six calls — three fires, two rescue operations, and one false alarm.

Incidents across Kurzeme

Around midday, firefighters in Liepāja cut up a tree that had fallen onto the road on Atmodas Boulevard.

Shortly after noon, crews were called to the Novadnieki parish in Saldus municipality, where part of the exterior wall of a single-story house had collapsed. Firefighters pulled one person from the building and secured the site.

In the afternoon, a combine harvester caught fire in Lube parish, Talsi municipality, burning an area of about two square meters. In the evening, a pile of garbage caught fire in an unmaintained building on Brīvības Street in Ventspils, also covering roughly two square meters.

Around 3:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to Virga parish in the Dienvidkurzeme municipality, where a truck was on fire across approximately 15 square meters.

Nationwide figures

Across Latvia during the same 24-hour period, VUGD received a total of 69 calls — 17 for fires, 36 for rescue operations, and 16 that turned out to be false alarms.
