Two Tragedies at Imanta Station: Residents Call for Fence
Two young men have died on the railway tracks near Imanta station within a month, both apparently ignoring warning signals. Local residents are urging the installation of physical barriers.
On the morning of July 12, a train traveling from Jūrmala struck a man between Imanta and Babīte stations. The man reportedly did not respond to a prolonged warning horn and remained on the tracks.
Earlier, on the evening of June 7, another man walked along the tracks towards an oncoming train near a crossing and likewise did not react to the driver’s horn. A video recording from the driver’s cab confirms this incident.
Both victims were young men. Local residents believe the solution is a fence, which would also help prevent people from crossing the tracks illegally via unauthorized paths.
The two tragedies occurred within a month, prompting calls for immediate action. Latvian Railways (LDz) was asked whether it plans to install physical barriers to reduce the risk of people accessing the tracks. LDz has not yet responded.
