DJI camera clone maker Xtra halts preorders and refunds deposits

Xtra Technology, known for selling nearly identical copies of DJI's Osmo Pocket cameras under its own brand, has suddenly halted preorders for its latest model, the Xtra Muse 2 Pro. The company has removed the product from its website landing page and says it will refund all $20 deposits collected during the early bird program. Refunds are expected within 5 to 10 business days.

While Xtra cites an inability to confirm a reliable launch timeline, the move appears linked to the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) crackdown on companies importing DJI technology into the United States. On July 10, the FCC proposed a $25,000 fine against Xtra and Skyrover suppliers for failing to answer questions about their technology's origin. A week later, the FCC also proposed retroactively banning these companies from continuing to sell existing products.

Notably, the FCC had approved the Xtra Muse 2 Pro on June 17, but those documents have since disappeared from FCC search results. The FCC did not respond to requests for comment. Xtra continues to sell its other cameras for now.

Customers who placed a reservation will receive a one-time 10% discount code as an apology, valid for 30 days on Xtra's online store. Neither Xtra nor DJI have commented on the situation.
