On Monday, August 3, the painting plein air “Dobele Region in Cross-Section 2026” opened at Dobele Castle. The event is organised by Dobele Municipality. At the opening ceremony, the artists were welcomed by the chairman of the municipal council, Andrejs Spridzāns.
Aim of the event
According to the municipality, the goal of the plein air is to reveal the landscapes, urban spaces and people of Dobele Region in paintings. The organisers highlight the region’s uniqueness, diversity and its distinctive place in Latvia’s cultural landscape.
Working across the region
The plein air will continue until August 8. During this time, participants are expected to work not only in Dobele but also visit Tērvete, Auce and other towns and villages in the region. This will give artists the chance to capture a variety of local sceneries and atmospheres.
Exhibition at Dobele Castle
Once the plein air is over, the completed works will be displayed in an exhibition at Dobele Castle. The opening of the exhibition and a meeting with the artists is planned for Saturday, August 8, at 1 p.m. Visitors will be able to view the new paintings and talk to the artists in person, gaining insight into their creative work during the week-long event.
