Funeral prayers held for Qatar's Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha
Funeral prayers were held on Sunday in Doha for Qatar's former ruler, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who died at 74. He ruled from 1995 to 2013 and will be buried at Lusail Cemetery.

Funeral prayers for Qatar's Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, were held on Sunday after the Maghrib evening prayer at the Imam Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab Mosque in Doha. Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 to 2013, passed away at the age of 74.
Rows of men in traditional Qatari dress stood with their hands clasped in front of them during the prayer, facing the shrouded body of Sheikh Hamad. Afterwards, close family members, including his son and successor Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, carried his body out of the mosque. Sheikh Hamad will be laid to rest at Lusail Cemetery in Doha.
Al Jazeera's Zein Basravi described the ceremony as "a humble event" and said Sheikh Hamad would be "buried in a simple grave." "This will be a simple Islamic funeral ceremony, a simple Islamic burial," Basravi reported.
Official mourning will last until Wednesday. During this period, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim will receive visiting heads of state, dignitaries, and members of the royal family at Lusail Palace.
