Latvia's Interior Minister Janis Dombrava, who also sits on the board of the National Alliance party, is considering running for the post of party board chair. The news agency LETA reported this, citing the politician's statement. The decision matters because a change of leader could shape the party's future political direction.

Dombrava said several party branches are ready to nominate him for the position. Whether he will actually run, he said, will become clear later: "This can surely be learned later," he said.

Indriksone still undecided

The current board chair, Education and Science Minister Ilze Indriksone, told LETA she has not yet decided whether to seek the post again. She said the nomination of candidates for party posts will continue until the end of November. "I will make this decision, but I have not made up my mind yet," she said.

Board re-election at congress

The National Alliance will re-elect its board at a congress on 13 December. Two years ago, at the congress that elected Indriksone as chair, the party amended its statutes: the chair is now elected for two years instead of one.

The board elected then comprised Indriksone, Ugis Mitrevics, Janis Vitenbergs, Nauris Puntulis, Inara Murniece, Janis Grasbergs, Edmunds Teirumnieks, Edgars Kristaps Rupeiks, Arturs Butans, Janis Dombrava, Raivis Dzintars, Richards Kols, Girts Lapins, Dainis Locis, Imants Paradnieks, Edvards Ratnieks and Roberts Zile.

In the elections to the 15th Saeima, Latvia's parliament, the National Alliance won ten seats, compared with 13 in the elections to the 14th Saeima.
