Dombrava asks Prosecutor General's Office to review possible violations in disaster management centre construction

Interior Minister Dombrava has asked the Prosecutor General's Office to investigate possible violations found while reviewing the implementation of certain disaster management centre construction projects. According to the minister, several cost items showed repeated price increases, along with other wasteful and suspicious practices that require an independent, in-depth assessment.

The minister stressed that he handed over the information at his disposal to the prosecutor's office specifically to ensure an independent evaluation of the situation.

Official suspended, internal audit launched

To allow a full assessment within the ministry itself, the official responsible for the relevant area at the Interior Ministry has been suspended from their duties. At the same time, an internal audit has been launched into the implementation of certain disaster management centre construction projects.

Eight new centres planned

Eight new disaster management centres were due to be handed over to services in 2026 — in Alūksne, Talsi, Tukums, Kuldīga, Preiļi, Sigulda, Riga (Bolderāja) and Jūrmala (Dzintari). These centres are meant to house, under one roof, the services involved in emergency response: the State Fire and Rescue Service, the State Police, the Emergency Medical Service, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, and the State Border Guard.
