Drones struck the Ilsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar region, causing a fire to break out on the facility's grounds. Monitoring groups ASTRA and Exilenova+ reported on the attack.
According to available monitoring data, the attack began around midnight. Local residents in Krasnodar confirmed hearing explosions and reported that air defense systems were active. A fire at the refinery was later reported as well.
The refinery and its role
Witnesses said the fire broke out at the Ilsky oil refinery, named after A. A. Shamara, located in the settlement of the same name in the Seversky district, about 50 kilometers from Krasnodar. The refinery's capacity is around 6.6 million tons of oil per year, making it one of the leading oil-processing enterprises in southern Russia. Its output is reportedly used in part to supply Russian military forces. Crude oil is delivered to the plant via the Transneft pipeline network.
There has been no official confirmation of the incident so far.
Preceding events
Overnight into September 25, explosions were also reported in the Russian cities of Ulyanovsk and Perm, where a factory and an oil refinery came under attack.
