Latvian judokas fall short in second round at Judo Grand Slam
Latvian judokas Ābrams Duinovs and Anastasija Sokirjanska were eliminated in the second round of a Judo Grand Slam event, while Antonijs de Anželiss lost his opening bout.
Latvia's judo representatives had a short run at this stage of the Judo Grand Slam series, with none of the three competitors advancing beyond the early rounds.
Duinovs, competing in the under-100kg category, received a bye in the first round but lost his second-round bout to Tulkinbek Turdiyev of Uzbekistan.
Anastasija Sokirjanska, competing in the under-57kg category, defeated Andreza Antonio of Angola in her opening match but was then defeated by China's Tao Yujiao in the second round.
Antonijs de Anželiss, who competed in the under-66kg category, was eliminated in the first round, losing to Erbol Abasbekov of Kyrgyzstan.
About the event's status
The Grand Slam category ranks as the second most prestigious tier of commercial judo tournaments, behind the Masters series, with Grand Prix-level events ranking third in the hierarchy.
