Twins marry twins in joyous Nigerian joint wedding

A rare wedding event took place in Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria, over the weekend, as twin brothers Taiwo and Kehinde Oguntoye married twin sisters Taiwo and Kehinde Adediran in a joint ceremony.

The Yoruba people, predominant in the region, are known for a high rate of twin births, but a union of two sets of twins is uncommon. "We know many twins, but this marriage feels like it was arranged by God. We have always dreamed of marrying twins," Taiwo Oguntoye told BBC Yoruba.

The love story began a decade ago when all four were students at the University of Ibadan. A lecturer introduced the brothers to the sisters, but initially the sisters were not interested in a relationship. They became friends, and later life took them separate ways: the sisters moved abroad for further studies, while the brothers worked in several countries including the United States and South Africa.

Years later, the brothers reconnected, and their bond grew. Families were thrilled. "Everyone was so happy to see us, it felt like we had known them all our lives," Taiwo Oguntoye recalled.

The wedding featured several other twin pairs, and the couples coordinated their outfits. The Oguntoye brothers are known locally for promoting twin culture. The brothers are fraternal twins, while the sisters are identical. "Our wives look so alike that even their family members sometimes confuse them. We don't mix them up, we know our own wives very well," said Kehinde Oguntoye.

Despite their closeness, the couples will live separately. "We have our unique plan about that, over time people will get to know about that," Taiwo Oguntoye noted.
