James loses on 76ers debut in NBA pre-season game
LeBron James lost his first game for the Philadelphia 76ers, a 114-108 pre-season defeat to the Brooklyn Nets. The 41-year-old says it will take time for his new team-mates to gel.
LeBron James, the all-time leading scorer in the NBA (the National Basketball Association, North America's professional basketball league), made his debut for the Philadelphia 76ers in a pre-season game and ended up on the losing side. The 76ers fell 114-108 to the Brooklyn Nets.
The 41-year-old American joined the Philadelphia club in July. By his own account, this will be his final NBA contract. James is starting his 24th season in the league, extending his own record.
The game
In 18 first-half minutes, James scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds, gave five assists and made one steal. He shared the floor with new team-mates Joel Embiid, VJ Edgecombe, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown. Brown top-scored for the 76ers with 18 points.
"We're still trying to put each other in the position to be successful and complement each other the best way we can on the floor. But it's going to take some time," James said. He added that the game was a good sample size to build on.
James's career
James has won titles with every NBA team he has played for: two with the Miami Heat, one with the Cleveland Cavaliers and one with the Los Angeles Lakers. He left the Lakers this summer after eight years with the franchise.
He has been named the NBA's Most Valuable Player four times, all between 2009 and 2013, and has been an All-Star in each of the last 22 seasons. With the 76ers, he is aiming to help the club win its first NBA title in 43 years.
