Dzērbene fish farmer raises fish and microalgae in his ponds
Raivis Apsītis has spent ten years raising fish in six ponds he built in Dzērbene parish, Cēsis municipality. He also advises other fish farmers and grows microalgae to enrich the ponds with oxygen.

Raivis Apsītis has built six ponds at the "Lejnieki" property in Dzērbene parish, in Latvia's Cēsis municipality, and has been raising fish in them for 10 years. His farm produces carp, trout, zander and other fish species.
Besides raising fish, Apsītis works as a consultant and gives advice to other fish farmers. He also grows microalgae, which enrich the pond water with oxygen.
Apsītis describes his pond as something like a small garden that needs tending.
The story of Apsītis and his farm was reported by the Latvian Radio programme "Stiprie stāsti" ("Strong Stories").
