John Legend Takes Tartu Fans Through His Musical Journey
Twelve-time Grammy winner John Legend performed at the Tartu Song Festival Grounds on Wednesday, showcasing his biggest hits and reflecting on his career.

On Wednesday evening, the Tartu Song Festival Grounds hosted a concert by twelve-time Grammy award winner John Legend. The American singer-songwriter and musician took the audience through the defining moments of his career, performing songs that illustrate his approach to songwriting. As he described it, his work is "always a mix of autobiography, and I let the creative process take me wherever it wants to lead me. I want everything to feel authentic."
Legend seamlessly moved between piano playing, personal recollections, and performances of his biggest hits, reflecting on a journey that began in small church performances and studio sessions and led to stages around the world. The support act was Estonian singer Anett, accompanied by guitarists Frederik Küüts and Johannes Laas.
Born John Roger Stephens in 1978 in Springfield, Ohio, John Legend started his career as a session musician, playing on tracks by artists such as Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, and Alicia Keys before breaking through with his 2004 debut album, "Get Lifted". Following that success, he continued to create music defined by a blend of soul, R&B, and pop.
In addition to music, Legend has acted in film, Broadway, and television. He is one of the few entertainers to achieve EGOT status—winning Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Awards—before turning 40.
