George after Boston move: "I can help Celtics keep fighting for a title"

New Boston Celtics forward Paul George said he understands fan frustration following the team's trade of Jaylen Brown, while expressing confidence that he can prove his value to his new club.

The 36-year-old arrived in Boston through a July trade with the Philadelphia 76ers that sent the reverse way 2024 NBA Finals MVP Brown.

Understanding the fans

George said he recognizes how important Brown was to both the organization and the city, so he does not take fan reactions personally, adding that such an emotional response is understandable.

Return from injuries

George has struggled with multiple injuries in recent seasons, including knee surgery performed before last season. The nine-time NBA All-Star, who has also earned six All-NBA selections, said he now feels physically recovered and ready to demonstrate his abilities again.

A new role

Boston's roster additions this offseason also include Mitchell Robinson and Mike Conley, while the team's leading star, Jayson Tatum, is preparing for his first full season since rupturing his Achilles tendon in May 2025. Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens said the newcomers already trained alongside Tatum and other teammates over the summer. Conley, 38, added that he and George share the goal of winning their first NBA championship.

George is expected to take on a significantly larger role than the team's other veteran additions, stepping into the starting lineup as one of Tatum's main supporting players. He stressed that he is not trying to replace Brown or fill the void he left, but believes he can help the team continue pursuing its top goals.
