Eddie Howe has left his role as Newcastle United manager with immediate effect, the club has confirmed. The 46-year-old replaced Steve Bruce in November 2021 and ended Newcastle's 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy by winning the 2025 Carabao Cup. He also led the club to Champions League qualification in 2023 and 2025.

However, recent months have been turbulent. Newcastle spent around £240 million on new players a year ago, but Howe was frustrated by the departure of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool. This summer, he lost Sandro Tonali to Tottenham and Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, while Arsenal are chasing captain Bruno Guimaraes. Last season, Newcastle reached the Champions League last-16, losing 8-3 on aggregate to Barcelona. Their EFL Cup defence ended in the semi-finals, and they finished fifth in the Premier League.

Under Howe, Newcastle won 84 of their 179 Premier League matches, drawing 38 and losing 57. He oversaw more Premier League wins than any other Newcastle manager, and his win percentage of 46.9% is bettered only by Kevin Keegan.
