European defense AI firm NestAI to invest €10 million in Latvian R&D center

European defense artificial intelligence company NestAI has announced plans to set up a research and development center in Latvia. Over the coming years, the company intends to invest €10 million and create 30 new jobs for scientists and engineers.

The move is part of NestAI's broader strategy to expand its presence in the Nordic and Baltic region. In August, the company already announced the launch of operations in Sweden, and the new center in Latvia is seen as the next step in that expansion.

Government response

Economy Minister Viktors Valainis emphasized that the planned investment and new jobs will make a significant contribution to the development of knowledge and technology in the country, as well as strengthen international cooperation. According to the minister, it is important for Latvia to attract high value-added investment, particularly in areas that simultaneously drive economic growth and reinforce the country's strategic resilience. He also noted that NestAI's plans demonstrate Latvia's potential to become a significant center for defense innovation and artificial intelligence development in the region.

Discussions with the company also covered broader opportunities, including how Latvia could further develop defense technology research and development, attract qualified specialists in the field, and strengthen Latvia's position within Europe's defense innovation landscape.
