European Championship quarterfinalists confirmed as Romania, which beat Latvia, advances further

France, Romania, Finland and Italy secured quarterfinal spots at the volleyball European Championship's round of 16. Romania, which had defeated Latvia in the group stage, beat Ukraine 3-0 on Sunday.

Several quarterfinal spots at the volleyball European Championship were decided on Sunday in the round of 16. France swept Portugal 3-0, led by Natiss Eno and Trevor Clevenot, who scored 12 points each, while Portugal's top scorers were Alexandre Ferreira and Lourenço Martins with 13 points apiece.

France will face Romania in the quarterfinals in Sofia, after Romania defeated Ukraine 3-0. Aleksandru Raca top-scored for Romania with 16 points, while Oleh Plotnytskyi led Ukraine with 15. Romania had already beaten Latvia during the group stage held in Cluj-Napoca as part of Group D.

In Turin, Finland defeated Greece 3-2 in a five-set match. Brothers Luka and Noa Martila each scored 21 points for the Finnish national team, while Jonas Jokela added 20 points along with six blocks. Finland will meet Italy in the quarterfinals, after Italy beat Denmark 3-0. Yuri Romano top-scored for Italy with 14 points, followed by Pardo Mati and Giovanni Sanguinetti with 11 points each.

The remaining round-of-16 matches will take place Monday in Turin, featuring Belgium against Czechia and Slovenia against Serbia. It has also been confirmed that Germany will face reigning European champion and world-ranking leader Poland in the quarterfinals, after Poland swept Latvia 3-0 in the round of 16.

The European Championship is being held simultaneously in Bulgaria, Romania, Finland and Italy, and will conclude on Saturday. Quarterfinal matches are scheduled for Turin and Sofia, while the medals will be decided in Milan.
