EKA street gallery opens graphic design students’ exhibition “Behind the Curtain”
A graphic design students’ exhibition, “Behind the Curtain”, opened on 23 October in the street gallery of the Estonian Academy of Arts. It draws on an archive hidden in the academy’s library basement and runs until 24 December.

The street gallery of the Estonian Academy of Arts (EKA) opened an exhibition by the academy’s graphic design students, “Behind the Curtain” (in Estonian, “Loori taga”), on 23 October. It will remain on view until 24 December, a run of roughly two months.
Inspired by the library basement
The exhibition is based on an archive hidden in the basement of the EKA library. Its description asks who is wandering the academy’s corridors, lurking behind a curtain. According to the text, the basement archive holds ghosts and restless souls, whose inhabitants ask to be set free.
How the show was made
The description states that the project participants “enchanted” 250 printouts in A3 format and pasted them onto an advertising board. Together with the ghosts, they carried out an exorcism ritual to free these souls. The works are therefore displayed on a billboard in the street gallery rather than in an enclosed room.
Practical information
The street gallery is an exhibition space of the Estonian Academy of Arts, and this time it shows work by graphic design students. “Behind the Curtain” is open from 23 October to 24 December.
