Experts: Europe is falling far behind in artificial intelligence
Industry experts warn that Europe lacks the infrastructure needed to develop its own artificial intelligence models, predicting a rapid buildup of new large data centers in the near future.
In a Latvian Radio program discussion, industry representatives acknowledged that Europe is significantly behind other world regions in artificial intelligence, pointing to insufficient technological infrastructure as the main cause.
Lacking capacity for model development
Neils Kalniņš, director of the "5G Techritory" program at the state joint-stock company "Elektroniskie sakari," and Jānis Irbe, senior expert at Riga Technical University's High Performance Computing Center, stated that Europe currently lacks the infrastructure required to develop its own AI models and to narrow the technological gap with leaders in the field.
Data center construction expected
The experts predict this situation will change soon, as a rapid increase in the construction of large data centers across Europe can be expected. Such centers would serve as the foundation for the more powerful computing infrastructure needed to develop and train artificial intelligence solutions.
The specialists emphasized that without adequate infrastructure, Europe risks falling further behind other world regions in AI technology development, making investment in data centers an important step toward improving the situation.
