The visit of CIA Director John Ratcliffe to Moscow is being interpreted as a clear signal that Washington continues to pay close attention to European security and the future course of the war in Ukraine, according to experts interviewed by Latvian Television.
The experts note that a visit by such a senior US intelligence official to the Russian capital confirms that the White House administration is closely following developments in the region rather than neglecting them. This is seen as evidence that the United States remains engaged both with the broader European security architecture and with the specific question of Ukraine's future.
A message for the Baltic states
At the same time, the experts stressed that this kind of diplomatic activity means the Baltic states need to keep actively working to explain their interests and positions to American policymakers. This points to the need for Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia to remain vigilant and continue dialogue with Washington on regional security issues at a time when high-level contacts between the US and Russia are taking place.
