Expert: China Positioning Itself as a 'Stabilising Force' in Global Politics
An international relations professor says China is working to present itself as an alternative security order builder and a stabilising force worldwide, though concrete proposals for resolving the Middle East conflict have yet to emerge.
Rex Li, Professor of International Relations at King's College London, told France 24 in an interview that China has been actively working to shape its image as a stabilising force in world politics.
According to Li, Beijing is promoting an alternative vision for the international security order, positioning itself as a country capable of easing global tensions rather than escalating them.
Cautious Stance on the Middle East
Li also noted that China has shown a growing willingness to take on a more significant role in ending the conflict in the Middle East. However, he stressed that so far Beijing has not put forward any concrete proposals for actually resolving the crisis.
The interview suggests a gap between China's foreign policy rhetoric and its practical actions — while the country presents itself declaratively as a peacemaker and stabiliser of the international order, specific diplomatic initiatives or solutions remain absent.
The professor's assessment reflects a broader trend in which major powers, including China, seek to expand their influence on the world stage by offering an alternative to the existing, Western-led security order, while often remaining at the level of general rhetoric without translating it into concrete political steps.
